In conversations with my students, I hear their anxiety about figuring out the risks and boundaries of their own agency. Any thoughts on how action fits into these ideas about self-care when it includes self-protection vs. taking a stand in the face of injustice or illegality?

Comment on Innovations in Relevance: A Q&A with Stephen Reily of Remuseum by Rose Beetem https://www.aam-us.org/2025/02/07/innovations-in-relevance-a-qa-with-stephen-reily-of-remuseum/#comment-246416 Sat, 08 Feb 2025 00:24:10 +0000 https://www.aam-us.org/?p=148674#comment-246416 Actually, the Denver Art Museum has a lovely restaurant … The Ponti … and a more casual option, Cafe Gio. Perhaps Mr. Reily is confusing the DAM with either the Clyfford Still Museum or the Kirkland Museum, which are both in close proximity and neither of which have restaurants.

I love reframing how and why digital transformation should take place as a way of persevering and building for future audiences rather than a necessary evil.

Comment on Museums as a Pink Collar Profession by Lauren Lessing https://www.aam-us.org/2019/03/25/museums-as-a-pink-collar-profession/#comment-243073 Sun, 22 Dec 2024 12:49:24 +0000 https://www.aam-us.org/?p=103085#comment-243073 The thesis that too many women working in the museum field will drag down salaries and status is based on a 1,500-word 2016 New York Times article, and it’s simply not true. Incorrect statements like this hurt women–particularly young women–in our field, and they encourage employers to discriminate against women in hiring, promotion, and compensation–activities that are illegal under Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Saying that “we know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that occupations with more women pay less.” is factually untrue and deeply irresponsible. Shame on the AAM for not correcting this.
